Response to Intervention

A Decision-Making Framework

Response to Intervention (RTI) presents a philosophy of diagnosis and prescription.

Its purpose is to ensure the success of every student, in every classroom across the country. RTI fosters screening, action on the data, fidelity and documentation within a technology-rich environment.  The centerpiece of RTI is its tiered model of intervention.  In this workshop, participants explore three distinct levels of instructional approaches that address student needs: Tier I-Prevention, Tier 2, Intervention, and Tier 3 Intense Attention.

Utilizing data-driven decisions, on going, informative assessments and a repertoire of best practices and differentiated instruction, Tier 1 addresses all students and often accommodates, 80-85% of student needs. Addressing 10-15% of identified students, Tier 2 focuses on timely intervention strategies  through flexible skill groupings. Tier 2 revisits, reviews, re-teaches and revises targeted skill sets in literacy and math. Tier 3, consists of planned and customized interventions that target 3-5% of identified students. . Tier 3 provides laser beam intensity through special education services, in addition to quality classroom instruction.
